Do College Rankings Prioritize Student Success?

As a formal sports fanatic, especially of college sport rankings, in recent years I have transferred this interest to a topic slightly more meaningful – college rankings. If you don’t know, there are over 10 different college rankings systems that value a great many different factors. I focused on 5 of the most well known (explained) college ranking systems in the U.S.

With my passion for student success, I wanted to know which of the U.S. college rankings systems put the greatest emphasis on this topic. It might surprise some people to know that while U.S. News & World Report is the oldest college ranking (still being used), only 52% of their total ranking is focused on student outcomes.

The ranking most incorporated student success is the The Wall Street Journal (90%) with Forbes (75%) being second. While I am not suggesting we overly focus on college rankings, I will now, going forward, give more credibility and attention to the Wall Street Journal’s college rankings vs. the others. On the flip side, I will pay little to no attention to the Times Higher Education and the Niche college rankings, which allocate 0% and 31% of their rankings to student outcomes, respectively.  https://lnkd.in/dK9rAvPM
