Mascots that are Aggies

At its root, an Aggie is someone from the farm. In this case, an Aggie is college student at an agricultural college. In 1862, the United States passed the Morrill Act which provided free federal land, previously Native American land, that states could sell to raise money for a college focused on the practical arts – at that time agriculture, technology, and the mechanical arts. In 1890 the 2nd Morrill Act gave states additional money to educate African American students at the same or a separate agricultural college.
