HEd History – SMU 1958 Yearbook

My daughter and I were at a half price book store in November 2022 and I found several old college yearbooks that I purchased for $5 each. Now you get to see what I found interesting in the 1958 SMU Yearbook!

  1. The varsity bowling team – only a few of these left in the nation that are not a club or intramural sport (and there was no women’s team.)
  2. Among the many engineering programs includes the automotive engineers – not something you see at many colleges like SMU today)
  3. The Dolphin Club – synchronized swimming used to be much more popular at colleges
  4. Rally Committee – a university spirit group that sounds somewhat elite to join – only 6 people from any one Greek group
  5. Christian Science – this is a religious group that generally eschews many medical treatments
  6. Blue Key – sounds exactly like the Golden Key National Honor Society – did they change their name to gold at some point?
  7. The 1-year old, state-of-the-art new natatorium (pool) with 5 lanes!
